This funding means whānau can continue to receive broader Whānau Ora support to achieve their aspirations and rebuild their resilience as the impacts of COVID-19 continue to unfold. The focus is on growing whānau resilience over the medium term.
Demand for Whānau Ora services is higher than ever – more than 10,000 additional families have registered with Whānau Ora since the start of the pandemic.
This funding builds on Budget 2019 and allows Commissioning Agencies to build on and continue the important work they are doing. It also builds on the Māori-focused COVID-19 support package announced in March 2020.
An additional $3.2 million will go towards supporting ongoing workforce development for Whānau Ora Navigators. This funding will help staff respond as whānau needs change and support new ways of working in a post-COVID-19 environment.
$1.495 million in 2020/21 will ensure Te Puni Kōkiri can consider the ongoing structure, role, and strategy for Whānau Ora in a post COVID-19 world.
