Voting on the Ngāpuhi Treaty of Waitangi settlement evolved mandate proposal is now open and the call is out for all Ngāpuhi to vote.
All Ngāpuhi over the age of 18 are being asked their opinion in an individual voting process.
To exercise your individual vote you need to be:
· Ngāpuhi;
· 18 years or older; and
· registered to vote.
Individual voting on the evolved mandate closes at 12pm midday on Friday 7 December.
In addition, ngā hapū o Ngāpuhi are holding hui-a-hapū in accordance with their tikanga to decide whether they endorse the evolved mandate proposal.
For more information on the individual voting process – including if you’re not already registered with Te Rūnanga ā Iwi o Ngāpuhi and need a special voting registration form – or on how to hold a hapū endorsement hui for your hapū and the hapū schedule, go to the Ngāpuhi Treaty Settlements webpage.
In the words of the Minister for Treaty Negotiations, Andrew Little: “This is about Ngāpuhi hapū having a say on their future. “I hope all Ngāpuhi vote and hold hui and make submissions, then we will know which hapū support the evolved model and how to proceed.”
