Ehara taku toa i te toa takitahi, engari taku toa he toa takitini The strength is not of the individual, but of the collective
Whānau Ora is on the brink of a new era.
As part of the next stage of implementation, the Government is broadening the scope to focus on more direct support for whānau and family capability building.
Three non-government organisation (NGO) commissioning agencies – with a North Island, South Island and Pasifika focus – are being contracted to select and fund innovative initiatives from a range of community entities.
Whānau Ora represents a significant investment in whānau and families by the Government and I am excited about this new approach.
Around the country wherever I go, I see whānau and families who have the capability and collective capacity to overcome the various challenges that confront them and can and will take responsibility if empowered to do so.
Finally, the new commissioning model signals the wind down of the Whānau Ora Governance Group and Regional Leadership Groups.
These community leaders have played a significant role in promoting and expanding the Whānau Ora approach over the past three years and have worked tirelessly because they believe in a better future for our people.
I thank you all for your incredible contribution and insightful, dedicated thought leadership.
