The Ngāti Ruapani mai Waikaremoana Negotiating Group seeks to enter into negotiations with the Crown for the settlement of the historical claims of Ngāti Ruapani. The draft deed of mandate sets out the process by which the Ngāti Ruapani mai Waikaremoana Negotiating Group seeks a mandate from Ngāti Ruapani and how it will represent Ngāti Ruapani in negotiations with the Crown.
Proposed change to appointment of representatives
The Ngāti Ruapani mai Waikaremoana Negotiating Group’s mandate strategy included two representatives from Te Kūhā Tārewa and Te Waimako marae and two ‘independent’ representatives. Following mandate hui the Ngāti Ruapani mai Waikaremoana Negotiating Group has considered how the two ‘independent’ representatives should be elected. The draft deed of mandate now proposes that the ‘independent’ roles are removed and replaced with an additional representative from Te Kūhā Tārewa and Te Waimako marae. Each marae would have three (3) representatives on the Ngāti Ruapani mai Waikaremoana Negotiating Group instead of the previous two (2).
Te Arawhiti – The Office for Māori Crown Relations (formerly the Office of Treaty Settlements) invites submissions, views or enquiries on the Ngāti Ruapani mai Waikaremoana Negotiating Group’s draft deed of mandate by 5:00pm on Sunday 11 August 2019.
