The Waikato-Tainui Negotiator released a draft deed of mandate on 13 September 2019. The Office for Māori Crown Relations – Te Arawhiti (formerly the Office of Treaty Settlements) invites submissions, views or enquiries on the Negotiator’s draft deed of mandate.
Published: Friday, 13 September 2019 | Rāmere, 13 Mahuru, 2019
The draft deed of mandate sets out the claims covered by the mandate, those currently excluded, as well as the negotiation team structure and the process undertaken by the Negotiator to seek the mandate from the iwi.
On 25 May 2019, Te Whakakitenga o Waikato voted to approve the mandate of the Negotiator to negotiate the settlement of the remaining historical Treaty claims of Waikato-Tainui.
The draft deed of mandate reflects that Waikato-Tainui and the Crown hold different positions on claimant definition and the time limit for hapuu to join or withdraw from the mandate. Te Arawhiti publishing the draft deed of mandate is not an endorsement of Waikato-Tainui’s position on these matters. The letter in the attached files below is from Te Arawhiti to the Negotiator, it provides further information.
Te Arawhiti asks that you carefully consider the claimant definition and time limit for hapuu to join or withdraw from the mandate when making a submission.
How to make a submission
Submissions must reach Te Arawhiti no later than 5:00pm on Friday 18 October 2019.
Te Arawhiti asks that submissions consider the claimant definition and time limit for hapuu inclusion or withdrawal from the mandate.
