Te Ākitai o Waiohua Iwi Authority is seeking a mandate to negotiate the settlement of Te Ākitai historical Treaty of Waitangi claims.
A mandate strategy has been developed by Te Ākitai o Waiohua Iwi Authority which sets out the claimant definition of Te Ākitai, the claims to be covered by the mandate, how the iwi will appoint representatives, and how the Te Ākitai o Waiohua Iwi Authority will be accountable to the iwi. It notes that the Te Ākitai o Waiohua Iwi Authority will seek a mandate from the iwi at a hui-a-iwi to be held at Pūkaki Marae on 5 March 2011. Te Puni Kōkiri and the Office of Treaty Settlements seeks any comment or questions that claimants or iwi members may have on the Mandate Strategy or the negotiation process generally.
