Stats NZ will start releasing data from the 2023 Census at the end of May 2024, with more to follow between October 2024 and August 2025.
Published: Monday, 18 March 2024 | Rāhina, 18 Poutūterangi, 2024
The first data release in May will include the census usually resident population (the count of all people who usually live in New Zealand and were present on census night), the count of dwellings (the places where people live or stay) and data on Māori descent.
This is just the first release – with date releases and insights from that data also to come from October 2024.
Māori descent counts will also be released by the Data Iwi Leaders Group on Te Whata data platform.
